🏁 Early Life & Amateur Success

Born and raised in California, Brooks began riding Minis at age 9 and turned pro by 1984 after standout performances on Honda’s amateur support team. His amateur pedigree included factory support from Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki during the late 1970s.

 

🛠️ Pro Racer Highlights (1984–1996)

Turned Pro in 1984, debuting at Unadilla and finishing 17th in his first race.

First major wins: Runner-up in 125 Supercross debut (Atlanta), and first win in Orlando in 1985.

Consistent AMA Motocross results: Achieved 5th overall in 250MX in 1992, 3 AMA 125MX podiums, and two top‑5 finishes in 250MX.

Became known for thrilling rides—including the 1985 Pasadena double-air finish—earning recognition for his fearless style.

 

📚 Media Career & Test Rides

From 1982 to 1996, Brooks served as a key test rider and featured personality for Motocross Action Magazine, appearing on over 100 covers and expanding his technical expertise.

 

🎯 Transition to Team Manager

After retiring in 1996, Brooks seamlessly transitioned to team management beginning in 1997.

Built championship success with Yamaha-supported teams, guiding riders like Jeremy McGrath, James Stewart, Chad Reed, and Grant Langston—clinching five Supercross titles and the 125MX National Championship in 2003.

Continued leadership with teams including Blue Buffalo/Slater Skins, Chaparral KTM, and Twisted Tea/Progressive/Suzuki since 2022.

 

🏆 Current Role & Legacy

Today, Brooks manages the Progressive Ecstar Suzuki team (450 & 250 classes), including world-class riders like Ken Roczen. He remains a highly respected figure both on and off the track, celebrated for his strategic insight, no-nonsense leadership, and passion for developing young talent.
